When the workers realized that the tool the woman had been using as a hammer for 20 years was actually a hand grenade, they immediately informed the authorities. Huangbao Police Station took action upon receiving the report and sent police officers and a bomb disposal team to the scene. In a statement made by the police, it was said, "After taking possession of the hand grenade, we asked the experts to dispose of it."

The hand grenade was identified by the protective metal cover on its wooden handle, and it was revealed to be a Type 67 hand grenade made in China during the Vietnam War years.
