ATTACKED POLICE WITH A KNIFE On Sunday, October 13, 2024, while the teams were waiting for the door to be opened, Emre Köroğlu, who was reportedly having a nervous breakdown, attacked the police with a knife. In the attack, 3-year police officer Mustafa Topuz was injured with 7 knife wounds to his back.
SHOT AND NEUTRALIZED Topuz and another police officer drew their guns and neutralized the attacker by shooting him. Injured police officer Topuz was taken to Meram Medical Faculty Hospital by ambulance, while the attacker was taken to Konya City Hospital. Köroğlu, who had 33 criminal records, was detained after his treatment. After his procedures at the police station, Köroğlu was arrested by the court he was brought to.
INCIDENT CAPTURED ON CAMERA The moment of the incident was captured by security cameras. Police officer Mehmet Topuz, who underwent surgery, was discharged after his treatment.
FIRST TIME IN FRONT OF A JUDGE After the investigation conducted by the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Emre Köroğlu was charged with 'attempted murder of a public official due to his duty', while police officers E. D. and S. H., who did not intervene in the incident, were charged with 'abuse of office'. Emre Köroğlu attended the hearing at the Konya 3rd High Criminal Court via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS), while police officers E. D. and S. H. and the attorneys of the parties were present in the courtroom.
Emre Köroğlu, who stated that he could not give a statement due to his discomfort, said, "I had surgery before and I will undergo another surgery in a few days, so I can make my defense at the next session."
Police officer E. D., who was heard as a witness in court, said, "On the day of the incident, we received a report from the news center. Emre came at us with a knife from inside the house. After hearing the gunshot, I came back. I thought my friend had gone outside during the incident. The man was on top of my friend, I pulled my friend and took him to the ambulance. I had pepper spray on me during the incident, but I didn't use it because I didn't have the authority to do so. My friend was closer to the street door. Emre was inside the house; we didn't go in, he came out with a knife. Emre's father was outside, he told us that he was having a nervous breakdown. There were also broken windows. His mother was outside too, and she said they were arguing with Emre," he said. Another police officer, S. H., also stated, "I was with the team on the day of the incident. I couldn't wake up; I couldn't go because I was tired. I have nothing to add to my written defense."

Two police officers came to the garden of the house. The police did not detain Emre. Emre went back inside and took a knife. My wife was screaming from inside, 'Run away.' Emre started shouting 'Allahu Akbar' and began to chase the police, at that moment the police tripped. First, there was a struggle, then we heard voices and a gunshot," he said.
"WE HAD CALLED A PREACHER 1-2 MONTHS BEFORE THE INCIDENT" Ayşe Köroğlu, Emre Köroğlu's mother, said, "On the day of the incident, I was lying sick. Suddenly, I felt something cold being poured on me. Emre was pouring vinegar on me. I asked, 'What is happening?' He said to me, 'Mom, the jinn are eating you.' He was putting cabbage and cucumber. I asked my husband to call an ambulance. Later, when I went outside, Emre was shouting at me, 'Don't go outside, the monsters will eat you.' Emre started to pray. He turned to my little daughter, and fearing that he would harm her, I asked her to hide under the blanket. He was telling my husband and my other son that 'jinns and monsters are coming out of your eyes.' We went outside, Emre went into the kitchen, took a knife, and said, 'I will chase the monsters,' I asked him to put down the knife. I didn't know there were police outside; I hadn't seen the police coming. While I was talking to Emre, I suddenly saw him running outside and shouting to chase the police. I was not aware that he had stabbed anyone; I tried to intervene, but I was scared because I didn't know how to hold him or how to intervene. I heard the gunshot when I held Emre's hand. I shouted, 'They are not monsters, they are police.' Emre had previously used drugs; we tried to get him treated several times, but he had never harmed us until now. We had also called a preacher to read for him 1-2 months before the incident," she said.

I was the first to go to the police officer's head. Then we carried him to the ambulance with the police officer next to him," he said.
POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE The court panel decided to postpone the hearing to a later date after the lawyer's defenses, in order to address the deficiencies in the file and to send Emre Köroğlu for a mental health report to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution.
