New footage has emerged in the murder of Hakan Çakır, who was killed by a group that harassed his sister and mother in Ankara. The footage shows the same suspects attacking a group celebrating in the street after a wedding with a sword they pulled from their pants shortly before the murder. The grieving father, Şahin Çakır, is calling on the authorities to make changes to the legislation regarding Juvenile Delinquency.
A chilling incident occurred last Sunday night on Adnan Yüksel Street in the Etlik neighborhood of Keçiören district in Ankara. Hakan Çakır, who runs a raw meatball shop, had a dispute with Taha Z. (14) and Samet Z. (17), who were sitting on the stairs, over a right-of-way issue while his mother and sister were returning home from the shop.
THEY HARASSED HIS MOTHER AND SISTER, AND KILLED HAKAN Hakan Çakır (23) was stabbed to death during a fight with individuals who verbally harassed his 15-year-old sister and mother. In the fight, his older brother Hakkı Can Çakır (27) and father Şahin Çakır (53) were also injured by stabbings.
Hakan Çakır 4 PEOPLE ARRESTED Taha Z. and Samet Z., along with their older brother Emir Z. (19) and their father Cemal Z. (45), as well as U. K., were taken into custody. While the father and three brothers were arrested, photos and videos shared by the family on social media showing them with long-barreled guns, pistols, swords, and knives drew public outrage.
"SUDDENLY, 10-15 PEOPLE CAME WITH KNIVES" The injured father Şahin Çakır and brother Hakkı Can Çakır spoke for the first time. Şahin Çakır stated that his sons opened a raw meatball shop a month ago, saying, "On the night of the incident, their mother and sister stayed with them until 24:00, and then they went home. At that time, I was at home, a relative had come to visit. They were only 200 meters away from home. During this time, my daughter and my ex-wife were going down these stairs to go home. While passing by, they made remarks to them and verbally harassed them. My daughter got scared; she is 15 years old. When this harassment went on for a while, my daughter immediately called her brother Hakan. Hakan came alone and said, 'Son, what’s going on? Can you verbally harass people who are as old as your mother?' While he was saying this, they got up, and they approached. Then we heard shouting and commotion. My older son ran, the guest next to me ran, and I ran. I saw the kids; I held one of them and said, 'Son, go away from here, don’t cause trouble.' I pushed him into the middle of the road, and he moved away from us. He threatened, saying, 'You will see in 5 minutes,' and left while cursing. I said, 'Don’t go looking for trouble; we are not troublemakers.' It was as if everyone was waiting; within 5 minutes, 10-15 people came down the stairs with knives. I looked at the road, and there were just as many people on the road. Their father was at the front, holding a knife. The other kids had knives, one had a bread knife. The father had a butcher knife. The kids all had small knives. The father came at us swinging the knife. I never saw Hakan. The last time I saw my son Hakkı Can, he was trying to take the knife from their father. At that moment, someone came from behind with a knife. I immediately jumped in front of my son. I must have been stabbed then. We had nothing in our hands. We had no sticks or anything else. They attacked us unexpectedly. There was a scuffle for about 10 minutes. Everyone was calling the police, but no one from the police came. They called 112, but there was no ambulance. We were all on the ground; even my guest was stabbed," he expressed.
Grieving father Şahin Çakır "THE 14-YEAR-OLD HAS 20 CASES" Father Çakır stated that those who attacked them were part of a gang and that they came suddenly with knives and clubs, saying, "This is the second Ahmet Minguzzi incident. My son came out without forgetting the Ahmet Minguzzi incident in Istanbul. I call out to our ministers from here. Please intervene in these penalties; don’t let them roam around just because the children are young, don’t release them. Will there be a law coming out of the parliament, whatever it is, let it change. Let not one more Hakan, one more Ahmet go. Our hearts are burning. Please don’t release anyone just because they are young. We have no business with such gangs and groups. Can there be a fight with such swords and knives? We are 4 against 20. Fear God a little. They have posts on social media; guns and knives in the car. They are still out. The youngest 14-year-old child has 20 cases. This child is out here killing my son. What is this? Why is this child outside? One of them was on conditional release, just recently out. Why is he outside? With all these crimes and images in your hands, why are these people being released? What am I supposed to do now? My 23-year-old young man is gone," he said.
"CHANGE THE LAWS AGAIN" The grieving father continued his statements: "Who is pushing these children into crime? Their father is at the forefront. I am also a father; I have three children. I lost one because of them. Let that father be like that. The father comes at the front with a club. If the father came out politely and asked, 'What happened, brother? Is there something wrong?' I would sit him down, feed him raw meatballs, and send him off with a hug. I am such a person; I don’t know what a fight is, I run away. But we found ourselves in the middle of a fight. Even if my child is right or wrong, I would apologize to him and send him away. From now on, of course, we trust the judiciary. I will do everything I can to ensure that they do not get out, and I want the Minister of Justice to do the same. Please let our Hakans not go. Change your laws again. No, he is 14 years old; well then, let everyone give a knife to the 14-year-old child and let him go out and act tough on the street. They stab everyone, and three months later, they are out. Then it’s another citizen’s child. It’s a shame," he said.

(right) "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS REMORSE" Father Çakır requested changes to the regulations regarding Juvenile Offenders (SSÇ) from the authorities, saying, "What is the cost of taking a life? 3 months, 5 months, 5 years? I sacrificed for 23 years to raise my son to this age. Hear me now, my heart is burning. They are still laughing at us, cooked and well-done. There is no shame in these people, no remorse at all. They look at each other as if to say it was good."
In front of him, his girlfriend is joking with her hands handcuffed. My child is gone, I have nothing to be ashamed of, but while we stand with our heads down, they are laughing heartily. There can't be this much audacity. There is no such thing as regret; they look as if they are saying, "I will get out anyway." We also want this from our state; let them not get out. When a person enters there, let them say, 'Oh no, my life is over' when this handcuff is put on. Please do this to those who commit crimes," he said.
Emir Z. "I SAW MY BROTHER FALLING FOR THE LAST TIME" Hakkı Can Çakır also said, "The incident developed suddenly. While I was holding the knife in the hands of the fathers, the 3 siblings stabbed both me and my brother from behind. In fact, the siblings were saying, 'We stabbed him' there. There were 10-15 people; but the only family we saw was that one. I saw my brother falling for the last time. We couldn't make sense of it. Even though we told them to 'go away, there is no fight' because they are young, they still came with knives in their hands. When I saw my brother fall, I went to him, and I fell next to him because I was also injured. I don't remember the rest. I learned about my brother's death when I was discharged from the hospital," he said.
