Takahiro Shiraishi is known as the "Twitter killer" for killing and dismembering 9 people he met on the social media platform X, formerly known as "Twitter." He was arrested in 2017 after the bodies of 8 women and one man were found in a refrigerator in his apartment, and he was sentenced to death in 2020.
FOUND PEOPLE WITH SUICIDAL TENDENCIES
Authorities conducting the investigation stated that Shiraishi communicated with individuals with suicidal tendencies through social media, offering to help them, and then invited his victims to his home, where he killed and dismembered them.
FIRST EXECUTION SINCE 2022
Shiraishi was executed at the Tokyo Detention Center, and the execution was kept secret from the public until it was completed. This execution was the first to be carried out in Japan since July 2022. Among G7 countries, only Japan and the United States still impose the death penalty.
