The United States has made a decision regarding the Gazprombank exemption requested by Turkey. Following negotiations between Turkey and the U.S., the exemption granted to Turkey under the Gazprombank sanctions has been extended until May.

The United States has extended the exemption period granted to Turkey regarding Gazprombank sanctions until May. The decision, made as a result of Turkey's diplomatic efforts, will allow Turkey to continue its energy trade with Russia.

The exemption granted to Turkey on December 20 was set to expire today. The Ministries of Treasury and Finance and Energy and Natural Resources had been working intensively on the matter. According to a senior official who spoke to Bloomberg, the exemption granted to Turkey regarding Gazprombank sanctions has been extended until May following negotiations between Turkey and the United States.

MINISTER ŞİMŞEK HAD A MEETING WITH HIS U.S. COUNTERPART

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek recently held a teleconference with his U.S. counterpart Scott Bessent. In a statement made by the U.S. Department of the Treasury regarding the meeting, it was announced that the ministers discussed not only sanctions but also other economic and national security issues concerning both countries.

The United States had imposed sanctions on Gazprombank in November, a vital channel for energy payments, to pressure Russia's revenue from gas sales. Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that if an exemption were not granted, it would mean that Turkey would also be a target of the sanctions, and he announced that an exemption had been granted to Turkey following the negotiations.
