The countdown has begun in Sinop, which is preparing to host an international match for the first time at the national team level. Before the Turkey-Switzerland appointment on April 18, the 10,000-person stadium is practically being rebuilt. Teams conducting a comprehensive 'renovation operation' from lighting to seat renewal, from scoreboard to painting processes are working hard to get the stadium ready for the match.

Sinop is preparing to host national excitement

Mehmet Kalyon, the Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, told AA correspondent that they are excited to host a national match for the first time in the northernmost part of Turkey.

Kalyon explained that the Sinop City Stadium, built on an area of 22,000 square meters, is 100 meters away from the sea and was put into service in 2024, but its official opening has not yet been held. He stated that on April 18, they will experience both national excitement and the official opening of the stadium.

Kalyon reported that they were given a list by federation authorities to make the stadium compliant with UEFA standards, saying, "We are completing all deficiencies."

Kalyon emphasized that April 18 will be a historic day for Sinop and that they will all experience the excitement of this historic day together, stating:

"It will really be a great honor for us. Hosting the national team here and coming out with our heads held high is everyone's goal. With the national match being played, we have also achieved UEFA standards in our stadium. Our ministry has also provided great support to us. Especially in terms of funding, they have provided all necessary contributions. If we, as Sinop, take ownership of this, and continue to do so, there will be such matches in our stadium in the future."

Kalyon expressed his belief that the national match will also make significant contributions to the city's tourism, saying, "We are in a very beautiful place in the northernmost part of Turkey. We are a city with historical riches. This will definitely attract the interest of our guests. Hopefully, we will experience this excitement together in a beautiful environment."
