The United Arab Emirates has suspended all commercial activities, exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran until further notice. The decision notably came after the UAE announced that two ballistic missiles, which it stated originated from Iran, targeted maritime navigation. Tehran, in turn, denied the UAE's claim that missiles were launched from Iranian territory toward the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced that all commercial activities, exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been suspended until further notice.
According to a report by the UAE's official news agency WAM, citing Afra Al Hamili, Director of Strategic Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all commercial and economic activities as well as financial transactions with Iran have been suspended until further notice.
No detailed information about the decision has been shared yet.
DECISION CAME AFTER 2 BALLISTIC MISSILES WERE LAUNCHED The statement came after the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that two ballistic missiles identified as coming from Iran targeted maritime navigation and that the missiles fell into the sea.
In the statement from the Ministry, it was noted that as a result of the assessments conducted, it was determined that two ballistic missiles coming from Iran targeted maritime transport. The statement, which noted that the missiles fell into the sea, emphasized that the Ministry is in a state of full readiness against all kinds of threats.
The statement said, "Any attempt aimed at destabilizing the security of the state or the safety of navigation in the region will be met with determination," and expressed that the country's sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as its national interests and capabilities, would be protected.
The Ministry also called on the public to obtain information from official sources and not to share rumors or unverified information.
IRAN REJECTED UAE'S "MISSILE" STATEMENT On the other hand, Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ismail Baghaei rejected the UAE's statement that missiles were launched from Iranian territory towards the country.
In a written statement on the matter, Baghaei demanded that "all parties in the region refrain from making baseless accusations against Iran, given the actions of the US and Israel against regional peace and security, and especially their history of numerous 'false flag' operations."
Baghaei assessed that the UAE's accusations against Iran were "contrary to the principle of good neighborliness and harmed the ongoing efforts to strengthen trust among regional countries and prevent the escalation of insecurity in the region."
Ismail Baghaei WHAT HAPPENED? Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the US and Israel conducted joint attacks on Iran, and Tehran in response carried out attacks on regional countries, including the UAE, where US elements were present.
Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June, mediated by Pakistan, aiming to end the war and reach a lasting peace agreement.
However, talks were later interrupted due to ongoing disagreements over the terms of the memorandum and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is of critical importance for global energy exports.
