A social media post by individuals who unlawfully filmed women in hijab at a public beach in Belek, affiliated with the Serik district of Antalya, and used insulting expressions, drew reactions. Following the footage, the Serik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation, and it was determined that the individuals left the country on August 14 and made the post from abroad.
In the images reportedly taken at the public beach in Belek, affiliated with the Serik district of Antalya, two individuals were seen recording citizens on the beach with their mobile phone cameras.
BACKLASH AGAINST SCANDALOUS REMARKS
In the footage, particularly women wearing hijabs were targeted, with degrading and insulting expressions used about their clothing choices. Following the sharing of the footage on social media, numerous users reacted, stating that the individuals violated the privacy of private life and personal rights.
CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE LAUNCHED INVESTIGATION
An ex officio investigation was launched by the Serik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. It was stated that the investigation is being conducted within the scope of the crime of "inciting the public to hatred or hostility or humiliation" regulated under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code, based on the images and expressions spread on social media.
Within the scope of the investigation, police launched efforts to apprehend the individual, learned to be named E.B., who recorded the images and shared them from a social media account, along with his friend. The police determined that the individuals had gone abroad on August 14 and had made the post from abroad.
