The United Nations announced that the terrorist organization ISIS attempted five separate assassination attempts against President Ahmed Shara, Interior Minister Enes Hattab, and Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Sheybani in order to destabilize the new administration in Syria, but all of these attempts were thwarted.
Syrian President Ahmed Shara has survived death many times.
5 SEPARATE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS PREVENTED
According to a report prepared by the United Nations (UN) Counter-Terrorism Office, in addition to Shara, Interior Minister Enes Hattab and Foreign Minister Esad Hasan Sheybani were targeted in 5 assassination attempts last year, all of which were prevented. It was also noted that 2 of the attacks were bombings carried out in the north of Aleppo and the south of Dera.
TERRORIST ORGANIZATION ISIS TARGETED
The report stated that Syrian President Shara was "targeted" in the north of Aleppo and the south of Dera, and that these attempts were carried out by Ensar al-Sunna, which is considered a front organization of the terrorist group ISIS.
SHARA WAS THE PRIMARY TARGET
The report did not provide dates or details regarding the assassination attempts, but emphasized that Shara was considered "the primary target of ISIS" and that these attempts were evidence of an intention to weaken the Syrian government.
"PREVENTED THANKS TO INTELLIGENCE PROVIDED BY A NEIGHBORING COUNTRY"
A Syrian intelligence official also stated last fall that the assassination attempts against Shara were prevented by Syrian security forces thanks to intelligence provided by a neighboring country.
