    Volkan Konak was born and raised in the Maçka district of the Black Sea. The influences of the Black Sea are very prominent in his songs, speeches, and artistic identity. He has combined traditional Black Sea music with modern touches to reach a wide audience. For this reason, he has been nicknamed "Son of the North" as a representative of the Black Sea region located in the north.

    Volkan Konak was born in 1967 in the Yeşilyurt village of Maçka district in Trabzon. After completing his primary, secondary, and high school education in Maçka, he entered the Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory of Turkish Music in 1983 with the encouragement of his teacher. He graduated from the conservatory in 1988 and started his master's education in Social Sciences on Folk Music at Istanbul Technical University in the same year. He completed his master's education in 1991.



    He began his artistic and musical career in 1989 with the music album "Suların Horon Yeri," which he compiled from his research in the Maçka region. Later, he started composing. By composing works of valuable poets such as Nâzım Hikmet, Yaşar Miraç, Ömer Kayaoğlu, and Sunay Akın, he defined his music and style. He created a unique style that has no example by incorporating ethnic motifs into his compositions.

    Konak released "Efulim" in 1993. Later, in October 1994, he prepared the album "Gelir misin Benimle." He paused his work for a while due to his military service. After completing his military service, he immediately began working on his third album, "Volkanik Parçalar." After three months of work, this album was presented to music lovers. In April 1998, he released the album "Pedaliza" from his own company, Kuzey Müzik Prodüksiyon, which he established. Since 1993, he has showcased approximately fifty of his compositions in album projects and has been selected as the artist of the year by the Journalists' Society and various foundations and associations. In 1997, he was chosen as the Best Music Artist of the Year by Politika magazine. A composition he produced in 1993 had all its worldwide rights purchased by Alain Finet as a result of a contract made between Kuzey Müzik Prodüksiyon and the French producer Alain Finet.

    In 2000, he released the album "Şimal Rüzgarı" through DMC, reaching his listeners. In December 2003, after a 3.5-year break, he released the album "Maranda" again under the DMC label. In 2006, he met music lovers with his album "Mora." He composed the piece "Gardaş," which includes lyrics written by his sister Nuran Bahçekapılı, in memory of Kazım Koyuncu. Having lost many close relatives, including his father, to cancer and constantly feeling the pain of this loss, Volkan Konak composed the piece 'Cerrahpaşa' for his father, with lyrics written by his sister Nuran Bahçekapılı.
