The moment the uncontrollable forest fire, which started in the Buca district of İzmir and spread to the Gaziemir and Menderes districts, broke out has been captured on video. The fire erupted during welding operations at an illegal construction site, where sparks from cutting iron ignited dry grass, and the moments when the flames rapidly spread were recorded second by second.

Yesterday afternoon, during the iron cutting and welding operations at an unlicensed construction site belonging to Y.Ö. in the Zafer neighborhood of Buca district in İzmir, sparks ignited the surrounding grassy area and then the nearby forested area.

EXTINGUISHING WORKS ARE STILL CONTINUING

With the effect of the wind, the flames grew and quickly spread over a large area. The fire, which damaged forested areas, affected the districts of Buca, Gaziemir, and Menderes, and the extinguishing efforts are still ongoing.

THE MOMENT OF THE FIRE'S START CAPTURED ON CAMERA

Security camera footage of the moment the fire started has emerged. In the footage, it was clearly seen that sparks jumped to the dry grass, then the grass caught fire, and the flames spread to the forested area within a few minutes.

5 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY, 2 OF THEM IN COURT WITH A REQUEST FOR ARREST

As part of the investigation related to the fire, Y.Ö., the owner of the illegal structure, and N.T., S.Ö., Y.K., and the juvenile B.A. who were working at the construction site were taken into custody. Among the suspects, Y.Ö. and N.T. were referred to the court with a request for arrest, while the other three were referred to the Duty Peace Criminal Court with a request for judicial control measures.

The investigation initiated by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is ongoing.
