Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, in his warning about the recent increase in seismic activity in the Aegean Sea, stated, "I recommend that our citizens living near the affected area along the Aegean coast be cautious." Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan emphasized that the evacuation of settlements on Santorini and nearby islands, as well as restrictions on maritime transportation and fishing, should be implemented.

Intense seismic activity is occurring around Santorini Island in Greece.
MORE THAN 10 EARTHQUAKES IN A DAY Yesterday, 8 earthquakes occurred in the Aegean Sea, with magnitudes ranging from 3.5 to 4.4. The tremors continued today as well. According to the data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:22 AM, with its epicenter on Aniye Island in the Aegean Sea. Shortly after this tremor, a new earthquake measuring 3.6 was recorded at 11:37 AM. Again, a new earthquake measuring 4.8 occurred at 3:55 PM in a region close to Santorini Island.
EVENTS CANCELLED, SCHOOLS CLOSED Following the series of earthquakes, the Santorini Island Municipal Council decided to cancel all events and meetings planned for today and tomorrow during an extraordinary meeting. Additionally, education and teaching were suspended in kindergartens as well as primary and secondary schools.
NACI GÖRÜR WARNED CITIZENS NEAR THE REGION Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a notable post on his social media account following the earthquakes that occurred in the region, which is also quite close to Turkey. Görür stated, "I mentioned the increasingly frequent earthquakes since yesterday in the northeast of Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea. Due to the increasing frequency today, I recommend that our citizens near the mentioned area along the Aegean coast be cautious."
AHMET ERCAN: EVACUATION OF SETTLEMENTS AND RESTRICTION OF MARITIME TRANSPORTATION AND FISHING IS NECESSARY Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan, in his assessment regarding the earthquake, stated that the settlements on Santorini and nearby islands should be evacuated, and maritime transportation and fishing should be restricted. Ercan said in a statement on his social media account: "For the past few days, there have been continuous tremors in the Aegean Sea, with the largest being a small earthquake reaching M4.8 on Santorini Island. The focus depths of the earthquakes and tremors being between 1 and 5 km indicate that the ground movements are volcanic in origin. The pressure increase of around 250 bars from the magma chamber before a magma-related explosion, at a temperature of 2200°C, is trying to break through the Earth's crust. If a silicate lava erupts, it may also throw volcanic bombs. If an explosion accompanies the earthquake, earthquakes that could produce tsunamis in the range of M5 to M7 could affect the Aegean Islands, the Peloponnese, Crete, and the coastal strip of Turkey's Teke Peninsula. The evacuation of settlements on Santorini and nearby islands, as well as the restriction of maritime transportation and fishing, is necessary."
