The application that will double the amount on electricity bills has come into effect as of today. According to a statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, citizens with a monthly electricity consumption of 417 kilowatt-hours (1,050 TL) will start paying real costs instead of subsidized prices if their consumption exceeds this limit. The new regulation, referred to as "pay as you use," particularly concerns subscribers with high consumption.

1.2 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS' BILL AMOUNTS WILL CHANGE

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that there are approximately 40 million residential subscribers in Turkey and that the regulation will affect about 3% of them, or 1.2 million subscribers. Minister Bayraktar expressed that this group generally consists of those living in large houses, using electric vehicles, or having high electricity consumption.

REAL CONSUMPTION COSTS WILL BE COLLECTED FOR ELECTRICITY

Minister Bayraktar said, "Subscribers who exceed 417 kilowatt-hours of consumption per month will pay for electricity at real costs starting from February. This regulation is aimed at high consumption groups. While the average household's electricity bill is around 414 TL, the monthly bill for high consumption subscribers exceeds 1,050 TL. From this point on, the subsidized price application will end," he said.

417 KILOWATT-HOUR LIMIT WILL BE ACCEPTED

According to sector sources, subscribers whose bills exceed the monthly limit of 417 kilowatt-hours may experience an increase of 96-97%. In this case, an electricity bill of 1,000 TL could rise to as much as 2,000 TL. However, this increase will only apply to consumers who exceed the specified limit.
