On July 6, 2025, during a search and rescue operation carried out in a cave used by members of the separatist terrorist organization on a hill at an altitude of 852 meters in the Pençe-Kilit Operation area, 12 soldiers were martyred due to exposure to methane gas. The news of the martyrdom of Specialist Sergeant Kani Obi from Ordu was conveyed to his mother Fatma Obi and his brother Hasan Obi by Korgan District Governor Kerem Tunçer and military officials in the Çayırkent neighborhood of Korgan district.

It was stated that before becoming a martyr, Specialist Sergeant Kani Obi did not take many photos, but after reaching the rank of martyr, he wished for his photos to be published on social media, news channels, and websites.
In a photo shared on social media, it was noted: "Kani Obi, who became a martyr today, was my friend. My classmate had a will; he didn't take many pictures because he thought you would share them somewhere, but he said, 'If I become a martyr, let them share it everywhere like social media pages and news channels.'" On the other hand, the martyr Kani Obi from Ordu will be buried tomorrow in the Korgan district.
