The woman who had an abortion rushed to the prosecutor's office after learning the truth at the state hospital she visited.

Elif Yılmaz (30), who came to visit her mother in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin, fell ill and underwent an abortion at a private hospital on the grounds that she would not be able to carry her 6-week-old baby and that the baby would be born disabled. After returning to her home in Ankara, Yılmaz fell ill again and underwent another abortion at Bilkent City Hospital due to the claim that half of the fetus was left inside. Yılmaz filed a complaint against the private hospital and the doctor in Kızıltepe.

Elif Yılmaz, who was 6 weeks pregnant and came from Ankara to visit her mother, fell ill on August 17 and went to a private hospital. After being examined by an obstetrician, Yılmaz was told that she needed to have an abortion because her baby would not survive and would be born disabled. After the abortion, Yılmaz was discharged, but when her bleeding and pain continued, she returned to the hospital. Yılmaz claimed that she was told her condition was normal and returned to Ankara. After experiencing worsening pains and bleeding, Yılmaz went to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, where she underwent a second abortion due to the claim that half of the fetus was left inside. Yılmaz filed a criminal complaint against the hospital and the doctor with the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

"I UNDERWENT SURGERY FOR THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PERFORM THE ABORTION"

Elif Yılmaz, recounting her experience, stated that she felt she had escaped death, saying, "I had gone to visit my mother in Kızıltepe, Mardin from Ankara. While I was here, I fell ill and was taken to a private hospital. I was pregnant, and after the examination, I decided to terminate the pregnancy upon being told that the baby would be disabled. They performed the abortion, but it was incomplete. I was discharged an hour after the surgery. After being discharged, I continued to bleed and returned to the hospital. I also explained that I needed to return to my home in Ankara. The doctor said, 'There is no problem, you can go.' So I returned to Ankara. While at home, the bleeding and pain continued, so I went to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. The doctors in obstetrics examined me and said, 'The abortion was not performed.' They took me for emergency surgery, and I was given blood because I had lost a lot of blood. I escaped death. I am complaining about the hospital in Kızıltepe; I underwent surgery for the second time because of them," she said.

"WE FILED A COMPLAINT FOR NEGLIGENCE"

Yılmaz's lawyer, Gurbet Bilbay, stated that they submitted a complaint to the prosecutor's office for 'misuse of duty,' saying, "My client applied to a private hospital in Kızıltepe on August 17 and decided to terminate the pregnancy based on discussions about the baby being disabled. They took my client for surgery. Three days after being discharged, she fell ill again and went to the hospital. The obstetrician said there was no problem and even that she could go to her home outside the city. After my client returned to Ankara, she learned at the hospital she went to that serious parts were left inside her. They told her that her life was at risk and that she needed emergency surgery and even needed blood urgently. My client is still in the hospital after this operation and is experiencing incredible pain. We filed a complaint against the doctor for negligence. We will follow this case to the end," she said.

"THEY LEFT THANKING US"

In response to the allegations, Obstetrician Ahmet T. stated that he could not understand the complaints and claims, saying, "Our patient left here thanking us. There was no problem; since she was only 6 weeks along, the fetus was very small, and we removed it. After the surgery, she came for a check-up, and there were no issues. We cannot understand these current allegations; we do not know why she is saying this. These allegations are very unfounded and nonsensical. She left here in perfectly healthy condition. Now she is saying very different things."
