The verbal attack that took place on public transportation in Istanbul caused a great public reaction. The moments when hateful words were directed at a hijab-wearing woman traveling on the metro were recorded with a mobile phone camera and shared on social media.
SCANDALOUS WORDS ON THE METRO: LET THEM BE DESTROYED
In the footage that quickly spread and drew significant backlash from viewers, a woman was heard making hateful remarks toward a hijab-wearing passenger. The individual said to the targeted woman, "Ignorance is oozing from all over you. If possible, all covered women should be closed down, destroyed."
CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE TOOK ACTION
After the reactions on social media grew like an avalanche, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office immediately took action regarding this ugly attack. Accepting the footage as a complaint, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation to identify the individual who made the insulting share in the video. As a result of the efforts, the suspect's name was determined to be Hatice Ö.
DETAINED ON CHARGES OF "INCITING PUBLIC HATRED AND HOSTILITY"
Following the identification, an official investigation was launched against Hatice Ö. on charges of 'inciting public hatred or hostility or demeaning' under the relevant provisions of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), upon the order of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Within the scope of the investigation, a detention order was issued for the female suspect. She was caught and detained in an operation carried out by teams from the Istanbul Provincial Security Branch Directorate. It was learned that the suspect's procedures at the police station are ongoing.
