The Supreme Election Council has determined the number of members of parliament to be elected from electoral districts in accordance with the Parliamentary Election Law. Accordingly, the number of members of parliament to be elected from Antalya has increased from 17 to 18, while the number from Karabük has decreased from three to two. The number of members of parliament to be elected from the 1st Region of Istanbul, which covers the Asian side, has increased by one, rising from 34 to 35, while the number from the 2nd Region of Istanbul has decreased from 26 to 25.

The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has published its decision regarding the number of members of parliament that provinces will have and the redefinition of electoral districts based on the 2025 population data in the Official Gazette.

NUMBER OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO BE ELECTED BY ELECTORAL DISTRICTS

According to the decision, a guarantee of 1 member of parliament was given for each province out of a total of 600 members. The remaining parliamentary seats were distributed among the provinces according to their population. Multiple electoral districts were created in provinces that elect a large number of members of parliament.

As a result of the calculations, it was stated that provinces with up to 18 members of parliament were considered to have a single electoral district, while a district arrangement was made for 4 provinces with more than 18 members. It was expressed that provinces electing between 19-35 members had 2 electoral districts, and provinces electing 36 or more members were divided into 3 electoral districts. According to this calculation, 2 electoral districts were created for the 21 members elected from Bursa and the 28 members elected from Izmir, while 3 electoral districts were formed for the 37 members elected from Ankara and the 96 members elected from Istanbul.

Compared to the previous decision, the number of members of parliament to be elected from Antalya increased from 17 to 18, while the number for Karabük decreased from three to two. The number of members to be elected from the 1st District covering the Asian side of Istanbul increased by one, rising from 34 to 35, while the number of members to be elected from the 2nd District in Istanbul decreased from 26 to 25. Additionally, the Güdül district in the 2nd district of Ankara was also transferred to the 3rd district of Ankara.

In the decision, it was noted that while determining the electoral districts, the YSK took into account population balance, the administrative integrity of districts, geographical proximity, and transportation facilities.

On the other hand, the Güdül district of Ankara was moved from the 2nd electoral district to the 3rd electoral district. The commission report emphasized that this decision by the YSK was made to ensure that the electoral processes are conducted more effectively.
