Benin's Minister of Interior Alassane Seidou stated that the armed forces thwarted the coup attempt. Seidou said, "A small number of soldiers initiated a rebellion with the aim of destabilizing the country and its institutions. In response, the Benin Armed Forces and the command hierarchy kept the situation under control and thwarted the attempt."
