A family traveling from Istanbul to Ankara, curious about the Grand Kartal Hotel, which caused the death of 78 people at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, took a 30-kilometer detour to see the hotel.
12 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
A fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel, one of the important points of winter tourism located in Kartalkaya, around 03:30 on Tuesday, January 21. The fire was brought under control after 11 hours of intense work, but 78 people lost their lives in the incident. While 12 people were taken into custody regarding the incident, the teams completed their work in the area.
THEY WERE CURIOUS ABOUT THE HOTEL
The Atasoy family, who saw the horrifying images of the fire in the media, changed their route to Kartalkaya while traveling from Istanbul to Ankara. Curious about the disaster hotel, the family extended their journey by approximately 30 kilometers and was horrified by what they saw.
"WE SAID LET'S SEE IT LIVE AT THE SCENE"
Erkan Atasoy, who came to see the burning hotel with his wife and child, said, "We came to Istanbul to see the children. On our way back, we changed our route. We turned our way here while going to Ankara. We said let's see it live at the scene. May God have mercy on the deceased. We are saddened. It's hard not to be sad," he said.
"THE BUILDING IS VERY TALL"
Mine Atasoy pointed out that there is a difference between watching the area on screen and seeing it up close, saying, "The building is very tall. Also, the roads are very winding."
