A total of 180 illegal immigrants managed to cross into Poland by digging a tunnel to bypass security at the Poland-Belarus border. Security forces, alerted by electronic systems, apprehended more than 130 immigrants, while search operations are ongoing for the others.
A "subterranean tunnel" has been opened at the Belarus border this time. 180 illegal immigrants crossed into Poland by digging a tunnel, effectively changing countries. Security forces, activated by the electronic systems, captured more than 130 of them, while the remaining individuals are still being searched for.
THE TUNNEL'S ENTRANCE IS IN BELARUS, EXIT IN POLAND
Andrzej Juzwiak, spokesperson for the Polish Border Guard, stated that the incident occurred in the Narewki region, revealing that the immigrants dug a tunnel 1.5 meters deep.
The entrance of the tunnel is reported to be located in a forested area on the Belarus side, about 50 meters inside the border, while the exit is found 10 meters after the border line in Poland.
MORE THAN 130 IMMIGRANTS CAPTURED
Juzwiak noted that the electronic monitoring systems detected the group of 180 individuals, stating, "More than 130 illegal immigrants have been captured, and our search efforts for the remaining individuals are ongoing."
It has been revealed that the immigrants are citizens of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
TWO PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
It was announced that two individuals, one a Polish citizen and the other a Lithuanian citizen, who came to the region to transport the immigrants to Western European countries, have been taken into custody.
POLAND INCREASING BORDER SECURITY
Due to the intense migration movements coming from Belarus, Poland constructed a steel wall 5.5 meters high and 186 kilometers long in 2022. However, as illegal crossings could not be completely prevented, it was decided last month to build a second barrier made of barbed wire, 4 meters high, parallel to the existing wall.
