BOTH SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED
In the investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following a tip-off to the Presidential Communications Center (CİMER), Uğur Yılmaz and Yavuz Canbaşı, who were identified as preparing an organization-linked 'sensational act' targeting the spouse of Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, were arrested.
3.2 MILLION TL IN CASH SEIZED
In the investigation, it was found that the suspects conducted reconnaissance on the target, carried out address and route studies, and during operations, unlicensed weapons and 3 million 206 thousand Turkish Lira in cash were seized.
CİMER TIP-OFF REVEALED THE TREACHEROUS PLAN
The suspects' treacherous plan was uncovered by a tip-off to CİMER from a person who overheard the conversations of four individuals at a workplace in Güngören.
The whistleblower stated that these individuals used aliases and had extensive criminal records, saying, 'They were discussing buying tickets abroad. At that moment, they mentioned the name Elif Gülşah Gürlek. Since the surname of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor is Gürlek, it caught my attention. When I learned that Elif Gülşah Gürlek was Akın Gürlek's spouse, I filed a tip-off.'
“I WILL GIVE 1.5 MILLION AFTER THE JOB IS DONE”
According to Sabah news, a live identification procedure was conducted with the whistleblower as part of the investigation. The whistleblower identified the person speaking via video on Yavuz Canbaş's phone as Uğur Yılmaz.
In further testimony, it was revealed that the person named Yavuz demanded 250,000 TL from Uğur for the attack targeting Elif Gülşah Gürlek during the conversation. Uğur said, 'I will give 1.5 million TL after the job is done. The money is ready with me.'
“AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT IS BEING PLANNED”
Arrested suspect Uğur Yılmaz, in his statement to the police, said, 'An assassination attempt-like incident is being planned against Elif Gülşah Gürlek, but I have nothing to do with these events. I did not prepare for such an act.'
Regarding being identified by the whistleblower, he defended himself by saying, 'There are people around me who are jealous and want to see me harmed.'
CASH AT HOME MATCHED HITMAN FEE
Yılmaz denied the claim that he said 'I will give 1.5 million TL, the money is ready with me' after the attack, but 1.748 million TL was seized during a search of his home. He claimed he had sold his car.
DID NOT PROVIDE PHONE PASSWORD
Meanwhile, the suspect did not share his phone password, citing that it contained private images of himself and his girlfriend.
HOSTILITY DEFENSE
The other arrested suspect, Yavuz Canbaş, denied claims that he demanded 250,000 lira for the attack and that a payment of 1.5 million lira was discussed upon completion.
Canbaş said, 'The whistleblower made false statements due to a dispute with my brother and participated in the identification to corroborate them.'
