On the 10th anniversary of the glorious epic of democracy written against FETÖ's treacherous coup attempt, extensive commemoration events are being held across Turkey under the theme "The Will Is Ours, The Victory Is Ours." On this meaningful day, where 253 martyrs and thousands of veterans are remembered, the historic words of heroic citizens who confronted tanks and guns on that dark night are echoing once again on social media.
On the night of July 15, 2016, the treacherous coup attempt targeting the national will and democracy of the Republic of Turkey was repelled by the epic resistance of millions who filled the streets and squares.
THEY STOOD AGAINST THE TANKS
Patriots who took to the squares upon President Erdoğan's historic call stood against tanks, warplanes, and weapons with only their faith, saying 'The homeland is ours, the will is ours.' In that relentless struggle that saved Turkey's future, 253 of our citizens were martyred, and over 2,000 of our heroes inscribed their names in history with the title of veterans.
ENTHUSIASM OF 'THE WILL IS OURS, THE VICTORY IS OURS' IN 81 PROVINCES
On the 10th anniversary of the national resistance, Turkey commemorates its martyrs and embraces its will through over 100 comprehensive events coordinated by the Ministry of Interior. Across all 81 provinces, Quran recitation programs, photo exhibitions, procession marches, dazzling mapping and drone shows are held, along with visits to martyrs' cemeteries. The pinnacle of the commemoration programs is crowned with a special ceremony attended by President Erdoğan at the Başkent Millet Garden in Ankara.
'IF ANYONE SAYS THIS...'
The most discussed and heart-wrenching detail of the 10th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt is the historical footage recorded that night and retrieved from the archives. The announcement echoing from the radio of a police officer trying to block the passage of tanks to protect citizens' lives revealed the gravity of that night once again: 'If anyone says this: 'I trust my life. I will pass,' then let them pass.'
'A PERSON DIES ONCE, DIE LIKE A MAN'
The determination of citizens who walked into the barrels to shield themselves with their chests, disregarding the police's warning, came to life again in memories with the historic sentence summarizing the character of the Turkish nation: 'A person dies once, die like a man!'
