The waters are not settling in the CHP after the "absolute nullity" decision. CHP Group Leader Özgür Özel stated that the new party's bylaws, program, and logo work have been completed, pointing to the end of July and beginning of August for the official step. For the name of the new formation, Özel said, "For now, let's call it the new party."
The debates and internal reckoning within CHP, triggered by the decision of "absolute nullity," show no signs of abating. One of the most notable figures in the process, Group Leader Özgür Özel, made his first clear and striking statements regarding the planned new party. Stating that the necessary legal battles are ongoing, Özel pointed to the end of July and the beginning of August as the timeline for preparations for a new party to be established as a precaution against all possibilities.
"EVEN DELEGATES WHO VOTED FOR KEMAL BEY..."
Referring to the ongoing legal process with the current CHP administration and the delegate signatures, Özgür Özel said, "First of all, July 20 is certainly expected. Following this, we are pursuing several legal battles in the Republican People's Party, but each has matters that will take a week, 10 days, or 15 days. For instance, they haven't fulfilled the requirements of the signatures—all the delegates. Imagine, even 500 out of over 600 delegates who voted for Kemal Bey in the last election signed saying 'Don't do this, Kemal Bey, come and hold a congress.' We collected those signatures and submitted them, yet despite the signatures we submitted, they are not holding the congress. There is a court process for this, and a Supreme Court process," he said.
THE "READY PARTY" FORMULA AGAINST A SURPRISE ELECTION
Stating that they are keeping all alternatives on the table in order to be able to participate in an election in the event of a possible early or surprise election, Özel revealed that intensive work is being carried out behind the scenes: "On one hand, a group of our colleagues are conducting discussions, considering all possibilities, regarding the establishment of a new party; on the other hand, another group is working on keeping an existing political party ready. If there is a surprise election, a ready party is needed to enter the election. The charter is being written, the program is being written, and the founding board is being decided. By the end of July and the beginning of August, an official step will be taken on this matter."
WHAT WILL THE NEW PARTY'S NAME BE?
Clarifying the name claims circulating in political circles, Özgür Özel stated that they have agreed on a generally accepted name and logo, and said: "Many names are circulating. The people are determining, I haven't determined it yet, but we are working on the name and logo. A clarification has begun to emerge regarding the name in general. The generally accepted name is clear, and the logo is also being worked on. For now, let's call it the 'new party.'"
