In Konya, a driver who went to a service station due to a noise in their vehicle was charged 60,000 lira on the grounds of an engine malfunction. However, an expert examination revealed that the issue was only caused by a 2,500 lira fuel pressure pipe.
S.A., living in Konya, went to a mechanic in the city center to find out the source of a noise coming from his 2021 model vehicle.
REPAIR THEY QUOTED 60 THOUSAND TL WAS DONE FOR 2 THOUSAND 500 TL
During the inspection there, the mechanic said it was an engine failure and needed to be repaired for around 60 thousand lira. After this, S.A. took his vehicle to an expert. The report prepared after the inspection there revealed that the vehicle's fuel pressure pipe was broken, which was a 2 thousand 500 lira fault. Upon seeing the report, the vehicle owner went to a different mechanic and had his vehicle repaired.
"THESE BREAK CHRONICALLY"
Expert Şenol Uysal, stating the importance of correctly diagnosing chronic faults seen in some vehicles, said, "A vehicle came. They had taken it to the workshop. At the workshop, they said, 'There is noise in the valves. The cylinder head will be opened, the valves and valve guides will be checked.' These vehicles have fuel pressure pipes. These can break chronically. When the vehicle came to us, we knew that the fuel pressure pipe was a chronic problem. We had encountered the same noise before. The fuel pressure pipe costs around 2 thousand 500 lira. Because it is plastic, it cracks and breaks at its bends. We checked there by hand. When we opened it a little, we saw the noise increase, and when we closed it and pressed our hand, the noise stopped. We sent the friend back and directed him to a mechanic we know. He went there. He replaced the fuel pressure pipe for 2 thousand 500 lira. The noise stopped, then he came here. He said, 'May God be pleased with you, brother, thank you. You saved me from a lot of expense'"
"YOU NEED TO SHOW IT TO PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE JOB"
Şenol Uysal said, "Procedures like opening the cover, valves, and valve guides would cost around 50-60 thousand lira. Also, if the intention was bad, they could charge even higher. They could increase the price by adding things here and there. When the vehicle came to us, we said, 'This is the fault, you don't need to go anywhere else.' We showed the noise on the spot. We said, 'Go, replace that pipe.' He replaced the pipe. He paid around 2 thousand 500 lira. So, you need to show it to people who know the job. Don't just get a price from one place," he said.
