When motorcycle use was banned in Istanbul's Pendik due to heavy rain, 20-year-old courier Yusuf Dal, who was delivering a food order by car, was seriously wounded in an armed attack. It emerged that the attackers mistook the courier's vehicle for the car of a businessman from whom they were demanding extortion money. Behind the same gang's second attack in Ümraniye, however, was a desire for revenge over a relationship.
The investigation launched after the armed attack that targeted the wrong person uncovered the background of two separate incidents. It was determined that the suspects who seriously injured the courier in Pendik were also linked to another armed attack in Ümraniye.
USED A CAR INSTEAD OF A MOTORCYCLE DUE TO RAIN
The incident occurred on October 15 in Istanbul's Pendik district. When a ban on motorcycle use was imposed due to the heavy downpour affecting the city, 20-year-old motorcycle courier Yusuf Dal set out to deliver a food order by car. Dal, who was waiting in the car in front of the house where he was taking the order, was seriously injured as a result of gunfire opened from behind the vehicle. The young courier was found injured by his friend A.B., who was also a motorcycle courier. It was reported that Dal, who was taken to hospital, remains in life-threatening condition.
THE ACTUAL TARGET WAS ALLEGEDLY THE BUSINESSMAN FROM WHOM EXTORTION WAS DEMANDED
In the investigation launched by the Homicide Bureau teams, it was determined that Yusuf Dal had not received any threats and had no known enemies. Police took the statement of businessman E.Ş., who lives in the apartment where the courier was taking food. E.Ş. explained that some individuals called him by phone demanding money and threatening him. The investigation revealed that the actual target of the attackers was businessman E.Ş. It was determined that the suspects opened fire after confusing the courier's car with the businessman's vehicle.
THE REASON FOR THE ATTACK IN ÜMRANİYE TURNED OUT TO BE REVENGE
After the attack in Pendik, police tracked the car in which the suspects fled through security cameras. On October 24, a person named B.D. was also subjected to an armed attack in Ümraniye. The teams determined that the attackers fled the scene in the car used in the attack in Pendik. The investigation established that B.D. had been in a relationship with the mother of one of the gang members and was therefore targeted for revenge. Thus, the connection between the two separate armed attacks and the same gang was revealed.
THEY BURNED THE CAR THEY USED IN THE ATTACK
The car in which the suspects fled was found burned at Pendik Coast hours after the second attack. Police tracked the suspects who left the vehicle and first reached Kocaeli, then the Sapanca district of Sakarya. It was determined that the suspects stayed in rented villas in Sapanca.
HE TRIED TO ESCAPE BY CLIMBING OVER THE WALL, DRONE CAMERA RECORDED IT
Teams of the Public Order Branch Directorate identified the villa where the suspects were hiding with the help of a drone. During the operation, which also included Special Operations police, one of the suspects tried to escape. The suspect, who slipped through the police, jumped down from the garden wall. However, teams that had taken precautions around the area caught the suspect where he fell. These moments of the operation were reflected second by second on the drone camera.
15 SUSPECTS DETAINED
After the raid in Sapanca, efforts targeting people linked to the gang continued in Istanbul's Sancaktepe and Avcılar districts. A total of 15 suspects were detained in the operations. Long-barreled weapons and a large number of bullets were seized in the searches.
