After a traffic accident with material damage in Nevşehir, citizens who stopped to help beat the drunk driver involved in the accident. The incident occurred late at night at the Balonlu intersection on Ürgüp Street in the Esentepe neighborhood. According to the information obtained, the driver of the car with license plate 34 BLM 448, Mervenur A., stopped at a red light at the intersection. The driver of the car with license plate 38 ALK 573, Feridun Y., who was traveling in the same direction, could not stop and crashed into the vehicle in front of him. After the accident, the parties who got out of their vehicles started to argue in traffic. Citizens who witnessed the accident and the argument also got out of their cars to help. When the drunk driver Feridun Y. started to curse at both the driver of the car he hit and the citizens who came to help, the argument suddenly turned into a fight. Citizens who stopped to help, feeling insulted, beat the drunk driver and his friend and left the accident scene.
"THEY STARTED TO THREATEN US AND CURSE"
Upon the notification of the surrounding citizens, health and police teams were dispatched to the accident site. The driver of the car, Mervenur A., stated in her explanation, "When I stopped at the lights, he suddenly crashed into me. I got out of my vehicle to understand what was happening. The driver who hit me got out of his car and approached me. He was having difficulty standing and smelled of alcohol. At first, he did not admit to being the driver. Later, he admitted it. When I wanted to call the police, he insisted that he did not want to call and that there was nothing to report to the police. He said we should solve it ourselves. When I insisted on calling the police, he approached me, my mother, and my brother. Then they tried to change drivers. They started to threaten us and curse," she said.
HIS LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED FOR 6 MONTHS
The drunk driver initially refused to blow into the breathalyzer. Later, when he tried to blow into the breathalyzer in the ambulance, he could not do it there either. The beaten drunk driver and his friend were taken to Nevşehir State Hospital for treatment after the first intervention at the accident scene. The driver, who was found to be drunk, was fined 25,000 lira, and his license was suspended for 6 months. Additionally, his car was banned from traffic.
An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
