During inspections of vehicles passing through Kırklareli Dereköy Border Gate to Bulgaria, 395.49 grams of smuggled gold jewelry were seized. Administrative proceedings were initiated against 2 Romanian and 1 Turkish citizen in connection with the incident.
A vehicle with Romanian plates entering Bulgaria via the Dereköy Border Gate en route from Turkey to Romania was subjected to a detailed search after the driver and passengers stated they had no goods to declare.
400 GRAMS OF GOLD SEIZED FROM TWO PASSENGERS
During inspections, 207.35 grams of gold hidden among personal items were found in one passenger's bag, and 132.14 grams of gold jewelry were discovered in another passenger's luggage. It was reported that the seized items included necklace and bracelet sets in luxury boxes.
In another incident, a passenger bus used by a Turkish citizen traveling from Turkey to Romania was inspected. Customs teams seized 56 grams of gold jewelry hidden in a factory gap in the bus's dashboard.
GOLD VALUED AT 25 THOUSAND EUROS
Expert examination revealed that the seized jewelry was made of yellow and white gold in various carats, with a total value of 25,427 euros.
Under the Bulgarian Customs Code, administrative proceedings were initiated against two Romanian citizens and one Turkish citizen, and the smuggled gold was confiscated.
