The Ministry of Trade imposed an administrative fine of 28,620 TL on the real estate company that told customers who called about the price of the apartment it had listed for sale online for 2 million TL that it was "not the sale price but the down payment," on the grounds of a "misleading listing."

The Ministry of Trade continues its inspections uninterruptedly against real estate listings on the internet that mislead consumers. The Ministry imposed an administrative fine of 28,620 TL on a real estate company that advertised the sale price on the internet as 2 million TL but told customers who called that this figure was not the price of the house but the down payment.

THEY MISLED THE BUYER BY SAYING "DOWN PAYMENT"

The teams of the General Directorate of Internal Trade, Department of Sectoral Trade and Movable Pledge, took action following posts reflected on social media. Examining the apartment shown on the internet listing platform with a sale price of 2 million TL, the authorities determined that the real estate company that placed the listing told prospective buyers who called them that this amount was not the final sale price, but was in fact the requested down payment amount. Following the investigations, the Ministry imposed a fine of 28,620 TL on the company in question on the grounds of 'misleading listing'.

CLEAR MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTRY: WE WILL NOT TURN A BLIND EYE

Stating that the same fines were imposed on many listing owners who misled citizens through similar methods in the region and that the investigations are continuing by being expanded, Ministry of Trade officials included the following statements in their published statement: "Prices specified in listings cannot be used to mislead consumers. Making our citizens chase after information that does not reflect the truth, and wasting their time and labor, is unacceptable. As the Ministry of Trade, we will continue to protect the rights of our consumers and to apply our legislation resolutely against misleading listings. We will not turn a blind eye to any practice that victimizes our citizens."
