The confusion at the North Marmara Highway exit is still unresolved. Those who miss the exit travel an additional 37 kilometers and have to pay an extra fee of 100 TL for this additional distance.
Drivers using the North Marmara Highway pay a heavy price for missing an exit. Drivers wishing to go from Istanbul Airport to Atatürk Airport must go all the way to Kilyos if they make a wrong turn. Drivers who have to travel 18.5 kilometers to the Uskumruköy toll booths and then turn back face both an additional 37 kilometers and an extra fee that can reach 100 TL.
The lack of any turn until Kilyos on the road has driven citizens to despair. Drivers and taxis avoid this road due to the traps of the North Marmara Highway. Due to rising travel costs and the grievances experienced, the North Marmara Highway, which is affiliated with İçtaş, is not preferred by drivers and taxi drivers. Especially when there is insufficient balance in the HGS account, the highway collects this fee through enforcement at many times the amount, continuing to be a problem that has not been solved for years. Drivers who do not want to encounter an unexpected surprise prefer the free Hasdal-Kemerburgaz road, which is the alternative and most preferred route.
THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HIGHWAY
Despite many difficulties, the North Marmara Highway is recommended as the shortest route by all navigation applications. One of the main reasons for this is that it stands out as a traffic-free route because it is not preferred by drivers. Despite thousands of complaints from victims on social media and the internet regarding the route, no solution can be found.
REACTION FROM A CITIZEN WHO MISSED THE TURN
Mehmet Kılıç, who stated that he missed the exit, said, "We missed the exit too. Right now, we will go and return on a road that takes 1 hour. I did not see any signs or exit warnings. The route I am going to is currently showing 59 minutes. Before missing the road, it was showing 16 minutes. Precautions need to be taken; time and money are valuable."
