Heavy rain and storms that were effective throughout the day in Izmir, Manisa, and Mugla negatively impacted life. Streets turned into lakes while homes and businesses were flooded. A person caught in the flood narrowly escaped by holding onto a tree branch. A car swept away by the flood fell into a stream, and a fire broke out in a vehicle at the charging station.
The heavy downpour and storm that have been affecting the central districts of İzmir have negatively impacted life. The rain and storm, which showed their effects intermittently throughout the day, intensified in the evening hours.
The strong downpour and storm particularly affected the central districts of Buca, Konak, Karabağlar, and Bornova. Due to the heavy rain, water puddles formed on some streets and roads. While floods occurred in the Vali Rahmi Bey and Yaylacık neighborhoods of Buca, some vehicles were submerged. In the Efeler neighborhood, a retaining wall collapsed due to the heavy rainfall.
In the Yenişehir neighborhood of Konak, the manholes overflowed. Due to water puddles and flooding, drivers and citizens struggled to move on the roads and sidewalks, while shopkeepers tried to drain the water that entered their businesses.
WATER CUT OFF IN THREE DISTRICTS In a statement from the İzmir Water and Sewerage Administration (İZSU), it was noted that lightning struck the Halkapınar Pump Station, stating, "Water cannot be supplied to the Bornova, Karşıyaka, and Çiğli districts fed by this line. Our teams are continuing their work to fix the malfunction."
FLOOD ALSO HIT MANISA The downpour that started in the city center of Manisa in the evening hours negatively affected life. Due to the continuous rain, some water channels overflowed, and water puddles formed on main arteries and streets. With the increase in flow in the Çaybaşı Stream, which runs through the city center, flooding occurred. The strong floodwaters coming from the slopes of Spil Mountain suddenly raised the water level in the Çaybaşı Stream bed. During this time, a parked car by the stream was swept away by the current. Following reports from nearby citizens, security measures were taken in the area due to the material damage caused by the incident.
Teams from the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and MASKİ General Directorate have been working on water drainage and channel cleaning with full force since the first moments of the rainfall. In the city, the fire department teams have also responded to incoming reports in a coordinated manner, and the teams' vigilance and interventions at critical points continue uninterrupted.
ELECTRIC CAR CAUGHT FIRE AT CHARGING STATION While the rain continued, a fire broke out in an electric car parked at a charging station. The flames quickly grew and engulfed the vehicle, and the fire department teams of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality intervened. The fire, which was claimed to have originated from a short circuit in the charging system due to the downpour, was extinguished with the intense efforts of the teams. After the fire, significant material damage occurred to the vehicle, and an investigation was initiated to determine the exact cause of the fire.
SWEEPED AWAY BY FLOOD In the Datça district of Muğla, the driver Ahmet Ural, who was swept away by the flood, fell into the stream that had increased in flow due to the heavy rain. Ural, who was swept away, held onto a branch of a tree in the stream bed and called his wife for help with his mobile phone. Upon the report, gendarmerie, fire department, and Muğla Search and Rescue teams were dispatched to the area. Ural was rescued from the place where he was trapped with the efforts of the teams. It was learned that Ural, who was taken to Datça State Hospital, was in good health.
