In the 'mummified body' murder case in Mersin, where a body was found 19 years ago in a freezer sealed with concrete in the courtyard of a house, 3 of the 6 suspects taken into custody were arrested. Judicial control measures were imposed on the other 3 suspects.
Within the scope of the investigation reopened by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 3 of the suspects detained in connection with the murder known as the 'mummy corpse,' which was found 19 years ago in the courtyard of a house inside a freezer surrounded by brick walls and covered with concrete, were arrested.
A BODY WAS FOUND IN A REFRIGERATOR
On August 1, 2007, in the courtyard of a detached house at 4537 Street, Bahçe Neighborhood, Akdeniz district, a freezer was found inside a structure whose surroundings were built with bricks and whose top was plastered with concrete. When the refrigerator, which was lying on its side, was opened, a male body wrapped in a rug was encountered, and examinations determined that the body belonged to 49-year-old Bahaddin Sefer. After the death of Sefer, who was found to have a fracture on his head and a cutting-tool injury on his neck, the case remained unsolved.
6 PEOPLE WERE CAUGHT
Following the work initiated by Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek to shed light on unsolved murders, within the scope of the file reconsidered by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Homicide Bureau of the Public Order Branch Directorate of the Provincial Police Department launched work. As a result of technical and physical surveillance carried out within the scope of the crime of 'deliberate killing with monstrous feeling and by design,' simultaneous operations were conducted on the morning of October 30 at 6 addresses identified in Batman, İzmir, Aydın, Yozgat and Sivas, centered in Mersin. Hikmet Ş., Hadi Y., Ahmet İ., Bektaş Ş., Özlem Ş. and Ayşe E. were detained in the operation.
THEY PINNED HIM DOWN AND SLIT HIS THROAT WITH A KNIFE
The suspect statements entered into the investigation file also revealed details about how the murder was committed. According to the statements, at around 23:00 on the night of the incident, Bahaddin Sefer, Hikmet Ş., Süleyman K. and Hadi Y. drank alcohol together at the victim's house. During this, Süleyman K. approached from behind Sefer and hit him on the head with an iron bar. While Süleyman K. and Hadi Y. pinned down Sefer, who had fallen to the ground, Hikmet Ş., who worked as a plasterer, cut the victim's throat with the knife in his hand.
THEY MADE IT LOOK LIKE A BENCH
The suspects, realizing that Sefer had lost his life, wrapped the body in a rug and removed the door of the refrigerator in the house. The suspects, who tried to place the body inside by laying the freezer on its side, were unsuccessful because the victim was large-bodied, so they cut off his legs. It was stated that they placed the body in the freezer in this way. It was determined that the suspects, who wanted to eliminate the traces of the murder, carried the freezer to the courtyard of the house, poured concrete into it, built bricks around it, and plastered over it to give it the appearance of a bench that could be sat on.
3 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED
The 6 suspects, whose statements were completed at the police station, were referred to the courthouse. Of the suspects brought before the court, Hikmet Ş., Hadi Y. and Ahmet İ. were arrested and sent to prison. It was reported that judicial control measures were applied to the other 3 suspects.
