Top Turkish Diplomat Meets With Libyan Vice Premier

15.09.2020 17:11

Meeting with representative of internationally recognized government, Mevlut Cavusoglu reiterates support for Libyan people.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Tuesday met with Libya's deputy prime minister.

Cavusoglu said on Twitter that he had a "productive meeting" with Ahmed Maiteeq.

"Will always stand by our Libyan brothers & sisters," Cavusoglu added.

Libya's government, formed in 2015, in the wake of the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, has faced a number of challenges, including attacks by warlord Khalifa Haftar.

In recent months, however, the UN-recognized government has turned the tide against Haftar's forces.

Turkey supports the government based in the capital Tripoli, and a non-military resolution of the crisis.

Turkey and Libya last fall signed pacts on security cooperation and maritime boundaries. -
