Mustafa Şamil Ekinci, one of the former presidents of Trabzonspor, passed away at the age of 83. The maroon-blue club also released a condolence message following Ekinci's death. In the statement made on the official website of the Black Sea team, it was stated, "Our legendary president, former chairman of the board, former vice president Mustafa Şamil Ekinci, who won 4 league championships, 2 Turkish Cups, 5 Presidential Cups, and 2 Prime Minister Cups during his 5-year presidency, has passed away. We have learned the news with deep sorrow. We wish mercy from Allah to Ekinci and extend our condolences to his family, our community, and his loved ones." WHO IS MUSTAFA ŞAMİL EKİNCİ?Originally from Kırşehir, Şamil Ekinci was born in Keskin. When he was 7 years old, he moved to Istanbul with his family and attended Istanbul Erkek Lisesi (Istanbul Boys' High School). In 1961, at the age of 19, he moved to Trabzon with his uncle Muarrem Ekinci to establish a flour mill. In the 1970-71 period, he became a member of the Trabzonspor Board of Directors, and in the 1975-76 period, he was elected as the president of Trabzonspor. During his time at Trabzonspor, Şamil Ekinci won four league championships, two Turkish Cups, four Presidential Cups, and one Prime Minister Cup with the club. These achievements in five years placed him in an important position in the history of Trabzonspor. Therefore, the museum where the trophies won by Trabzonspor are exhibited was named after him. The museum, which is still in service today, continues under the name of Şamil Ekinci Museum.
