First Lady Melania Trump, wrote a special letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
TRUMP HAND DELIVERED IT White House officials reported that during the meetings held between Trump and Putin in Alaska last Friday, the U.S. President personally delivered the letter to Putin. While officials did not disclose the content of the letter, they mentioned that it referred to the abduction of children due to the war in Ukraine. Trump later shared the letter his wife wrote to Putin on his social media account.
"YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO CAN REALIZE THIS VISION WITH JUST A STROKE OF A PEN" In the letter written by the First Lady to the Russian leader, the following statements were included: "Dear President Putin, every child carries the same silent dreams in their hearts; whether born randomly in the countryside of a country or in a magnificent city center. They dream of a safety filled with love and opportunities, away from danger. As parents, it is our duty to nurture the hope of the next generation. As leaders, our responsibility to protect our children is not limited to the comfort of a handful of people. We must strive to build a world filled with dignity for everyone. Thus, every soul can awaken to peace and the future can be fully protected. I am sure you will agree with this simple yet profound concept, Mr. Putin, that every generation's grandchildren start their lives with purity. With an innocence that transcends geography, government, and ideology. However, in today's world, some children are forced to carry a silent laughter surrounded by darkness, a quiet resistance against the surrounding darkness; to avoid falling into the hands of forces threatening the future. Mr. Putin, you can bring back this melodic laughter all by yourself. By preserving the innocence of these children, you will serve not only Russia but also humanity. Such a brave idea transcends all human divisions, and you are someone who can realize this vision with just a stroke of a pen. (The time for peace) has come."
ZELENSKY THANKED FOR THE LETTER Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for the letter, which had not been previously known, during a phone call following the meeting between U.S. President Trump and himself in Alaska. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha also stated on his social media account, "This is a truly humanitarian approach."
UKRAINE HAD DESCRIBED THE ABDUCTION OF CHILDREN AS A WAR CRIME Ukraine accused Russia of abducting tens of thousands of Ukrainian children taken to Russia or to territories under Russian occupation without the consent of their families or guardians, describing the situation as a war crime that fits the definition of genocide under the United Nations (UN) genocide convention. A statement from the UN Human Rights Office indicated that millions of Ukrainian children have suffered and had their rights violated since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
