US President Donald Trump announced that, following intensive diplomatic contacts conducted in Washington, Israel and Lebanon have declared a 10-day ceasefire effective from today. Trump stated that he personally spoke with the leaders of both countries and emphasized that this period is a critical window of opportunity to achieve lasting peace in the region.

CEASEFIRE BEGINS TONIGHT

In his statement, Trump said the following: "I had excellent discussions with Lebanon's esteemed President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. These two leaders have agreed to officially initiate a 10-day ceasefire today at 17:00 (00:00 Turkish time) with the aim of securing peace between their countries.

On Tuesday, for the first time in 34 years, both countries met here in Washington D.C. with our great Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. I have tasked Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan 'Radical' Caine, to work towards a lasting peace with Israel and Lebanon. I have had the honor of resolving nine wars worldwide, and this will be the tenth; let's get to work!"

STATEMENT FROM LEBANESE PRIME MINISTER

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam made a statement following the ceasefire. Nawaf said, "I welcome the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. This was a vital demand for Lebanon, which we have been working on since the first day of the war and was also the primary objective of our meeting in Washington on Tuesday."

Extending condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Israeli attacks, Nawaf expressed hope that those displaced due to the attacks would return to their homes as soon as possible. Nawaf also added, "I also thank all regional and international efforts that contributed to reaching this outcome, especially all our Arab brotherly countries, primarily the US, France, and European Union countries; particularly Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan."
