After Democrats gained a majority in the US congressional midterm elections, President Donald Trump and his family's financial dealings may come under scrutiny. Democrats are preparing to examine the Trump family's business partnerships with foreign countries, cryptocurrency investments, and agreements linked to Middle Eastern countries involving his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

After the Republicans' losses in the US congressional midterm elections, attention turned to the steps Democrats will take in the new period. According to reports by the Associated Press, Reuters and The Washington Post, Democrats plan to use the majority they won in Congress to launch comprehensive investigations into President Donald Trump's family and administration. The investigations are expected to focus in particular on the Trump family's business partnerships, companies' relations with the federal government and investments from foreign countries.

TRUMP FAMILY'S FINANCIAL RELATIONS MAY BE INVESTIGATED

According to a Reuters report based on congressional staff, lawmakers and lawyers, the Democrats' priority investigation areas include the Trump family's business activities that expanded over the past two years.

Democratic lawmakers are considering investigating the activities of companies linked to the Trump family in cryptocurrency, the defense industry, artificial intelligence and investment. The plan is to examine in particular whether these companies benefited from government decisions or public resources.

One issue the Democrats are focusing on is the activities of the investment firm 1789 Capital, among whose partners is Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.

SON-IN-LAW KUSHNER'S DEALS ALSO ON THE AGENDA

It is stated that the investigations may also address the commercial relations Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has conducted with Middle Eastern countries.

Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin announced that they requested information about the activities of Kushner's investment firm Affinity Partners linked to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Raskin argued that Kushner's taking a role in diplomatic negotiations while also conducting commercial relations with countries in the region raises conflict-of-interest questions.

Kushner's lawyer Chad Mizelle rejected the allegations and stated that it could not be shown that his client violated any law or regulation.

DOCUMENTS AND TESTIMONY MAY BE REQUESTED FROM COMPANIES

The Democrats' winning a majority in Congress opens the way for committees to use their oversight powers. In this context, documents may be requested from companies linked to the Trump family, company executives may be called to testify and official subpoenas may be issued when necessary.

According to Reuters, Democrats plan to focus especially on investigations conducted through private companies. The reason is that the White House can make confidentiality objections based on presidential powers for some official correspondence.

However, Congress's document requests and subpoenas may also face legal objections. Therefore, the scope and results of the investigations are not yet finalized.

WHITE HOUSE REACTS TO DEMOCRATS

The White House reacted to the Democrats' investigation preparations. In a statement to Reuters, White House spokesperson Olivia Wales argued that the Democrats did not present an agenda aimed at improving the lives of the American people, but instead were preparing to obstruct the Trump administration and target it with unfounded accusations.

1789 Capital, linked to the Trump family, stated that the allegations about it were unproven and announced that it would oppose politically motivated initiatives.

TWO DIFFICULT YEARS AWAIT TRUMP

According to the Associated Press's assessment, the Democrats' winning a majority in both chambers of Congress will significantly change the political balances in the remaining two years of Trump's presidency.

Democrats will have the power to block some senior appointments in addition to the ability to oversee the administration's activities and launch investigations.

Investigations into the Trump family's financial relations are being regarded not as investigations that have already begun or in which crimes have been identified, but as oversight steps the Democrats plan to implement in the new congressional term.
