US President Donald Trump claimed in a national address on election security that China interfered in the 2020 elections to help Joe Biden win. Trump alleged that approximately 250,000 foreigners were illegally registered as voters and that the names of deceased individuals still appeared on voter rolls, arguing that the election system is vulnerable to foreign interference. He also announced that intelligence reports related to these claims would be declassified.
US President Donald Trump made assessments regarding election security and the electoral system in his 27-minute address to the nation.
Referring to the 2020 presidential elections, Trump claimed that approximately 250 thousand foreigners were illegally registered as voters, and the names of deceased individuals still appeared on voter lists.
BLAMED CHINA
Trump alleged that during his first term, China aimed to force him to resign and prevent his re-election.
Citing a CIA report, Trump argued that in mid-2018, the Chinese Communist Party targeted lowering his vote share, and announced that he would declassify intelligence reports related to these claims.
"THE ELECTION SYSTEM IS DEFENSELESS"
Asserting that the US election system is vulnerable to foreign interference, Trump stated, "Hundreds of millions of US voter files are in the hands of foreign governments. Our machines and vote counting systems are open to cyber attacks, manipulation, and corruption."
Trump said, "This situation is worse than any third-world country. There is no third-world country with an election system like ours. A bipartisan approach is needed to establish a secure and fair election system in the US."
ALSO TARGETED TELEVISION CHANNELS
Trump also argued that the licenses of television channels that did not broadcast his address to the nation should be revoked.
