New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested if he visits the city in September for the United Nations General Assembly. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump said, "Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested in any way while he is in the United States. He is fighting against Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters and has been killing American soldiers and other people for the past 47 years."

US President Donald Trump made a statement after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested if he visits the city for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

"NETANYAHU WILL NOT BE ARRESTED WHILE IN THE US"

Trump said, "Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested in any way while he is in the US. He is fighting Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters and has killed American soldiers and others over the past 47 years. Those who should be arrested are the ones who have plunged Iran into this unprecedented spiral of death and destruction. This issue should have been resolved years ago under previous presidents."

ICC'S ARREST WARRANT FOR NETANYAHU

The International Criminal Court ruled in November 2024 that there were reasonable grounds to believe Netanyahu bore criminal responsibility for war crimes such as using starvation as a weapon in Gaza and deliberately attacking civilian populations, as well as crimes against humanity including murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts. The court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu accordingly. Since then, Netanyahu has only been able to make official visits to the US and Hungary, one of Israel's closest allies under former Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

MAMDANI'S STATEMENT ON NETANYAHU

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that Netanyahu is a war criminal who should be tried by the ICC, saying "If Netanyahu visits New York, he should be arrested."
