In his statement, US President Donald Trump announced that Israeli and Lebanese leaders will meet tomorrow, marking their first meeting in 34 years.
Ceasefire talks and the negotiation process between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States, began on April 14.
The meeting, which was stated to have taken place at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, was recorded as the first direct contact between the two countries in 30 years.
STATEMENT FROM TRUMP: A FIRST IN 34 YEARS
U.S. President Donald Trump made a post on his social media account regarding the matter. Stating that Israeli and Lebanese leaders will meet tomorrow, Trump emphasized that this summit would be a first in 34 years.
In his post, Trump included the following statements:
"We are trying to create some breathing room between Israel and Lebanon. It has been a very long time since the two leaders met, about 34 years. They will meet tomorrow. Great!"
ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON LEBANON
In a statement from the Israeli military on March 2, it was stated that sirens were activated in the north of the country after detecting a missile launch from Lebanon.
Subsequently, the Israeli military, which announced that it had launched airstrikes across Lebanon and targeted the capital Beirut, decided to expand the ground invasion in Lebanon, where it carried out intense air and sea attacks.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that 2,089 people have lost their lives in the attacks carried out by the Israeli military on the country since March 2.
The Lebanese government also announced that the number of displaced persons in the country has exceeded 1.162 million.
