US President Donald Trump said he is seriously considering making Venezuela, which has massive oil reserves worth $40 trillion, the 51st state of the US and would appoint a governor there. Trump also pointed out once again that the country has "$40 trillion" worth of oil, emphasizing that these resources are very important for the US.

US President Donald Trump said he "seriously" considered making Venezuela the 51st state of the USA.

“VENEZUELA COULD BE THE 51ST STATE”

Trump, sharing his thoughts on Venezuela with the New York Times, stated he "seriously" considered making the country the 51st state of the USA. Trump said, “Venezuela could be the 51st state of the USA, and I will appoint a governor to run it.”

Trump also emphasized once again that there is "40 trillion dollars" worth of oil in Venezuela, pointing out that the country's resources are very important for the USA.

HIS DESIRE IS NOT NEW

The US President had previously expressed his view of wanting to make Venezuela a state affiliated with the United States in his earlier statements. In a speech at a dinner in Washington DC last February, Trump said, "We will not invade Greenland. We will buy it. I never intended to make Greenland the 51st state. I want to make Canada the 51st state. Greenland could be the 52nd, and Venezuela the 53rd state."

Trump, who made an oil deal with Venezuela after President Nicolas Maduro was abducted from his home in Caracas on January 2 and taken to the USA, frequently states in his remarks on the subject that he "gets along well" with Interim President Delcy Rodriguez.
