U.S. President Donald Trump answered questions from the press as he entered the gala screening of the film "Melania," which was shot in honor of his wife, Melania Trump, at the Kennedy Center.
"I WILL ANNOUNCE THE NEW NAME TODAY"
When asked which day he would announce the Fed chair nominee, Trump referred to today and replied, "tomorrow (Friday) morning."
HE ANNOUNCED IT AT THE FIRST CABINET MEETING
Trump's statement came hours after he said at the first cabinet meeting of 2026 held at the White House that he would announce the name of the person he would nominate for the Fed chair next week.

Among the names Trump could nominate for the Fed chair are Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, Christopher Waller, a member of the Fed Board of Governors, former Fed Board member Kevin Warsh, and Rick Rieder, who works as a manager at the asset management company BlackRock. The current Fed Chair Jerome Powell's term ends in May.
