After Güllü's daughter Tuğyan Ülkem Gülter was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, her lawyer Merve Uçanok said she thought the decision would be overturned by the appellate court and the Court of Cassation. Arguing that her client was subjected to slander, Uçanok said, "We will never give up."
Following the decision issued in the case concerning Güllü's death, the parties' lawyers made statements. Tuğberk Yağız Gülter's lawyer Rahmi Çelik, expressing that they felt sorrow over the incident, said that the court's decision should be respected. Çelik stated that they would continue to follow the legal proceedings concerning Sultan.
