TÜRGEV President Attorney Hatice Akıncı Yılmaz, in a program hosted by Haberler.com Editor-in-Chief Attorney Bedia Teymur, described the foundation's 30 years of activities. Yılmaz, who made statements on many topics from the accommodation problems of university-age female students to artificial intelligence projects, said they have served 47,000 female students since 1996.
Yılmaz recalled that the foundation of TÜRGEV was laid by the then Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to produce a solution to the accommodation problem of female university students, and stated that the foundation has today turned into a broad education and social support network operating across Turkey.
47 THOUSAND FEMALE STUDENTS REACHED
Yılmaz stated that since its establishment, the foundation has served a total of 47,000 female students, over 40,000 of whom graduated from TÜRGEV dormitories. Noting that they offer scholarships, education, social development, and career support in addition to accommodation, Yılmaz said they address the needs of young people with a holistic approach.
INTENSE INTEREST IN THE GOOD WORKS FACTORY PROJECT
Yılmaz also touched on the "Good Works Factory" (GIF) projects carried out within TÜRGEV, and explained that they conduct education and social development programs for young girls in various locations, especially in Istanbul, Ankara, Konya, and the Silopi district of Şırnak.
Stating that they operate in many areas from art to music, from personal development to technology, Yılmaz expressed that significant success stories have emerged thanks to programs shaped by the demands of young people.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND MENTORSHIP STUDIES
Emphasizing that they aim to prepare young people for the technologies of the future, Yılmaz said they conduct various training and mentorship programs in the field of artificial intelligence.
Stating that they bring together experts in their fields with students, Yılmaz said, "We work to provide the skills required by the new age. The fact that our graduates mentor new students holds a special value for us."
"MUSLIM STUDENTS STRUGGLE WITH ACCOMMODATION"
Yılmaz also addressed the problems faced by Turkish students studying abroad, saying there are significant difficulties, especially regarding accommodation. Noting that students going to different countries for university education struggle to find safe living spaces that align with their values, Yılmaz stated, "Students can somehow get into university and find scholarships, but Muslim students face serious difficulties in finding accommodation that suits their national and spiritual values. Most university dormitories operate on a mixed-gender system. Therefore, we have established centers in New York and London to support students."
"WE MUST BETTER EXPLAIN OUR RECENT HISTORY TO YOUNG PEOPLE"
Yılmaz also made evaluations regarding young people's desire to go abroad, stating that this should not be seen solely as a negative situation. Noting that getting to know different countries and cultures improves young people's vision, Yılmaz emphasized that what truly matters is bringing the acquired knowledge and experience back to Turkey.
Yılmaz said, "We need to explain our recent history very well to our young people. If we can correctly convey to our youth the difficulties Turkey has overcome to reach today, the obstacles placed in its path, and the achievements gained, I believe the sense of belonging will strengthen even more."
SUCCESS STORIES EMERGING FROM SILOPI
Yılmaz stated that the work carried out in Silopi holds a special place for them, and said that the young talents discovered there have achieved significant successes. She recounted that one student's painting talent was revealed through the foundation's activities, and one of her works was presented as a gift to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE YOUTH, BUT WITH ADULTS"
In the program, Yılmaz also made assessments regarding young people, stating that they are conscious individuals with high analytical abilities, and said, "There is no problem with the youth at all. The problem is more with adults. Parents need to communicate correctly with young people."
Yılmaz noted that TÜRGEV is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary, and said they will continue their work to reach young people across Turkey with increasing efforts.
