It has been claimed that a secret black operation targeting regime change in Iran was halted at the last minute thanks to Turkey's intervention. The operation reportedly involved plans to supply weapons to PJAK and certain armed Kurdish groups, with Ankara pressuring the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), leading to the White House canceling the plan. The report also included allegations that Turkey is preparing for various scenarios in the event of a potential regime change.
The Israel-based i24 News channel published a striking investigative report on a secret operation allegedly aimed at regime change in Iran. The report claimed that the plan involved secretly transferring weapons to certain armed Kurdish groups, primarily PJAK, the Iranian branch of the terrorist organization PKK, but that the plan was halted at the last moment due to Turkey's intervention.
The report included assessments from Said Hamidan, leader of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA), which is on Iran's list of terrorist organizations, and Dr. Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak, a Turkey expert at Tel Aviv University's Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies.
TURKEY ALLEGEDLY EXERTED PRESSURE
According to the i24 News report, hundreds of armed elements moved from Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, towards Iran, and it was planned that hundreds of Baluch from Pakistan would also join the operation. The report alleged that the CIA had long been preparing with Kurdish groups, organizing arms shipments and special training.
ASMLA leader Said Hamidan claimed that the details of the operation reached Ankara and alleged that Turkey pressured the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to halt the plan.
ALLEGATION: "CANCEL ORDER CAME FROM THE WHITE HOUSE"
The report claimed that the details of the operation were leaked from the White House and that the US subsequently canceled the plan. Dr. Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak argued that the plan prepared by the US and Israel reached the media and then the Turkish government, stating, "They torpedoed this move for their own reasons."
Hamidan also claimed that US Vice President JD Vance was influential in the plan's failure, while it was reported that Israeli sources avoided directly naming anyone in this regard.
TURKEY ALLEGEDLY PREPARED FOR REGIME CHANGE
The report included an assessment that a potential regime change in Iran could lead to a new wave of migration. Dr. Yanarocak claimed that Turkey even considered creating a buffer zone in Iranian territory for this reason.
Hamidan further alleged that a plan was prepared envisioning the entry of the Turkish Armed Forces into certain areas in northwestern Iran in the event of the collapse of the Iranian regime.
ASSESSMENTS ON THE FAILURE OF THE OPERATION
The report cited reasons for the plan's failure, including the heavy reliance on Kurdish groups, the lack of unity among Kurdish groups, the erosion of US credibility in the region, and the lack of support for the operation from leftist Kurdish organizations.
Dr. Yanarocak claimed that Turkey did not want a new administration that could establish close relations with Israel to emerge after a regime change in Iran, while Hamidan argued that the US did not want to lose Turkey.
No official statement has been made by Turkey, the US, or relevant parties regarding the allegations in the report.
