BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT
In Germany, 36-year-old Turkish conductor Serkan Çalar, who was checking tickets on a regional train, wanted to check the tickets of 4 passengers aged between 20 and 30 who were traveling together on Monday, February 2.
One of the 4 passengers on the train departing from the town of Landstuhl in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, a 26-year-old Greek citizen who insisted on not showing his ticket, argued with Serkan Çalar. The Greek passenger, who stood up from his seat and pushed and punched Serkan Çalar, continued his attacks despite the conductor's calm demeanor. Serkan Çalar asked the passenger without a ticket to get off the train as per standard procedure. However, the Greek passenger did not leave the train and continued his physical assault on Serkan Çalar. Struck in the head, Serkan Çalar fell to the ground and lost consciousness. Despite receiving artificial respiration, he did not regain consciousness and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Serkan Çalar could not be saved despite all efforts in the intensive care unit and passed away.
