In the tornado that occurred at a construction site in Kepez, Antalya, on the night of October 25, the containers where the workers were staying were swept away, 4 workers lost their lives, and the construction site guard was injured. In the investigation initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the detained workplace owners Ş.Ç. and M.Ç. will be referred to the courthouse; occupational safety specialist İ.A. and site chief D.K., for whom detention orders have been issued, are fugitives.
In the investigation into the tornado in Antalya's Kepez district that killed 4 workers and injured 1 person, workplace owners Ş.Ç. and M.Ç., who were taken into custody, will be referred to the courthouse following procedures at the police station. It was stated that the occupational safety specialist and the construction site chief, for whom detention orders were issued, are fugitives.
The incident occurred around 23:00 on October 25 at a construction site on 6199 Street in Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood of Kepez district. While heavy rain and wind were effective in the city center, the tornado that broke out at the construction site whirled and shattered 2 containers where workers were staying. The tower crane at the site also collapsed. Following reports, numerous medical, fire, police, and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. In the incident, in which 6 workers staying in the containers were affected, 4 workers lost their lives, and the injured construction guard was taken to the hospital. It was learned that the workers who lost their lives in the incident were İsa Elnevvaf, Aycan Kılınç (30), Salah Muhammet Elnaim, and Muhammet Emin Elnaim. It was stated that construction began in January of this year and that 4 of the 5 containers installed at the construction site were damaged in the incident.
CONTAINERS WERE THROWN MORE THAN 100 METERS
The damage caused by the tornado became visible during the day. It was seen that the containers where the workers were staying were thrown more than 100 meters away. While the iron bunk beds in the containers were also thrown into the garden of a housing complex, the roof of a school in the same area was damaged.
The moments when the tornado hit the rest facility at the observation terrace belonging to Kepez Municipality before the construction site were also recorded with a mobile phone camera by personnel working at the facility. The footage included moments when the tornado threw tables, chairs, umbrellas, and a garbage container, as well as the panic experienced by the personnel.
CONSTRUCTION SITE CHIEF AND OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY SPECIALIST ARE FUGITIVES
Within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, workplace owners Ş.Ç. and M.Ç. were taken to the police station. Ş.Ç. and M.Ç. will be referred to the courthouse today after procedures at the police station. It was stated that occupational safety specialist İ.A. and construction site chief D.K., for whom detention orders were issued, are fugitives.
