In the pearl of the Mediterranean, Antalya, two seasons are experienced at once. While snow-fighting efforts continue in the highlands, where snow reaches 8-10 meters, the temperature in the city center has risen to 35 degrees Celsius as the weather warms up. As work machines clear the roads in the plateaus, local and foreign tourists, along with city residents, have flocked to Konyaaltı Beach.
In the tourism city of Antalya, the air temperature has started to noticeably increase with the month of June.
THE FEELS-LIKE TEMPERATURE REACHED 35 DEGREES
While the air temperature in the city was measured at 33 degrees Celsius at noon and the humidity at 70 percent, the feels-like temperature was 35 degrees Celsius. Due to it being the weekend, city residents and foreign tourists, overwhelmed by the heat, flocked to Konyaaltı Beach with the first rays of morning and entered the sea accompanied by the sun rising behind the city skyline.
THEY EXPERIENCED THE UNIQUE BEAUTY FROM THE SKY
On the beaches of Antalya, where the sea water temperature was measured at 27 degrees Celsius, there was almost no room to step, and children enjoyed the sea the most. While some citizens sunbathed and swam on the beach, others preferred to stay under tree shade and umbrellas. Some local and foreign tourists experienced the unique beauty of the city and Konyaaltı Beach from the sky by paragliding off the Konyaaltı variant.
KONYAALTI BEACH WAS PACKED
Coşkun Özgül, who spent the weekend swimming with friends at Konyaaltı Beach, said, "Summer came very late to Antalya. This week, the weather has started to warm up. It's 33 degrees right now, and the beach is quite crowded. The weather is very nice, and we are spending our weekend swimming in the sea. Antalya is uniquely beautiful, and we welcome everyone."
According to data from the Regional Directorate of Meteorology, the air temperature in Antalya will continue to rise and show its effect in the coming days.
SNOW CAPTIVITY ON THE PLATEAUS
While these events unfolded on the coast, road-opening work with construction machines continues at the Susambeli Plateau, at an altitude of 2,600 meters in the Gündoğmuş district. Antalya Metropolitan Municipality continues its snow-fighting efforts on high-altitude plateau roads without interruption. Teams working on the Karabul plateau road in Gündoğmuş are opening snow-covered roads to ensure safe access to the plateaus. Snow depths reaching 8-10 meters in places in June amaze those who see them.
Teams from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Department of Road Construction, Maintenance and Repair continue their work to ensure safe transportation on plateau roads with the start of the plateau season. Along with road maintenance and repair work, teams working on high-altitude plateau roads covered with snow in winter continue snow plowing operations.
ROADS ARE COVERED WITH SNOW
Teams continuing snow-fighting efforts on the Karabul Susambeli plateau road at an altitude of 2,600 meters in the Gündoğmuş district have opened a 60-kilometer section of the road to traffic, along with alternative routes. Struggling with snow depths of up to 10 meters in June, the teams plan to open the remaining 10-kilometer closed section of the road after a week of work.
