With a drop exceeding 50%, the wholesale price of chestnuts has reached 400 TL per kilogram. In Bartın, at the chestnut market established by local villagers, a 55-kilogram sack of chestnuts, collected by two people over 4-5 days, was sold for 22,000 TL.

The drought experienced in Turkey in recent years has also affected chestnuts.
PRICE REACHED 400 TL
Due to its size and flavor, the Bartın lamb chestnut, which is the most preferred by consumers, has seen a harvest decline of over 50% due to the drought, while the wholesale price per kilogram has reached 400 TL.
A CHESTNUT EXCHANGE HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED
Villagers who bring the chestnuts they collect in the Bartın forests to the indoor market in the city center at night in sacks are trying to get the reward for their efforts and labor by selling them at the established chestnut exchange. While last year chestnuts were sold at retail prices between 150-250 TL based on size and flavor, this year the wholesale price has risen to between 400-450 TL.
TWO PEOPLE COLLECTED IT IN 5 DAYS, A SACK WAS SOLD FOR 22 THOUSAND TL
In the chestnut market held last night, a 55-kilogram sack of chestnuts collected by two people in 4-5 days was sold for 22 thousand TL, which is the amount earned by a worker earning minimum wage in a month.
PRICES WILL INCREASE EVEN MORE
Those who collect chestnuts in the forest stated that they are having difficulty finding chestnuts due to the drought and expressed that chestnut prices will rise even more in the coming days. A tradesman noted that customers have reacted to them due to the prices. The tradesman, who stated that they sell chestnuts with very little profit margin to avoid turning away customers, also added that customers who used to buy chestnuts by the kilogram in previous years are now purchasing tasting chestnuts with orders of 50-100 and 200 TL.
