Two climbers who went to Russia with four friends from Antalya died of hypothermia at the summit of Mount Elbrus in Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that on April 22, a group of 5 tourists at an altitude of 5,300 meters in Elbrus requested emergency assistance, with 3 people rescued and 2 people confirmed dead. It was learned that the deceased were Mehmet Kocaakça and Kazım Güler.

THEY SUFFERED FROM HYPOTHERMIA

According to the information obtained, a group of 5 people consisting of nature lover and mountaineer Mehmet Kocaakça, Dr. Adnan Sarı from Alanya, tourism professional İzzet Köseoğlu, Cihan Yıldırım from Antalya, and Dr. Kazım Güler from Bursa went to Russia on Sunday. Yesterday, the group of 5 climbed the world-famous Elbrus Mountain, which is 5,642 meters high. While the climbers reached the summit of the mountain, they suffered from hypothermia, while the Alanya climbers Dr. Adnan Sarı and tourism professional İzzet Köseoğlu managed to descend on their own after calling for help. Upon the distress call, a rescue team of six from the Elbrus High Mountain Search and Rescue Team reached Cihan Yıldırım, one of the three climbers at the summit, just before he froze, while it was determined that Mehmet Kocaakça from Manavgat had died. As a result of the searches, the lifeless body of Dr. Kazım Güler was also found.

RUSSIAN MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS MADE A STATEMENT

In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, it was said, "On April 22, at an altitude of 5,300 meters in Elbrus, a group of 5 tourists sought emergency assistance. Two of the participants suffered from altitude sickness. Six rescue workers from the Elbrus High Mountain Search and Rescue Team of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the emergency site. 2 tourists were found dead, while 1 tourist was rescued, and it was determined that 2 tourists managed to save themselves."
