A new statement has come from U.S. President Donald Trump, who did not participate in the Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations in Istanbul. Trump said, "I will speak with Putin and Zelensky on Monday. I hope there will be a ceasefire."

A peace table has been established in Turkey to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. In the peace negotiations hosted by Turkey in Istanbul, the delegations of Russia and Ukraine could not reach an agreement.

TRUMP WILL MEET WITH PUTIN AND ZELENSKY

A new statement has come from Trump, who did not attend the Istanbul summit. Trump said, "I will meet with Putin and Zelensky on Monday. I hope there will be a ceasefire."

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE ISTANBUL SUMMIT?

The historical summit was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 11. Putin brought up the proposal to restart the direct negotiations, which were cut off three years ago, unconditionally in Istanbul on May 15, and requested President Erdoğan to host the meeting.

Following Putin's call, Trump also urged Zelensky to attend the meeting. The Ukrainian administration responded positively to the call.

While Zelensky came to Istanbul in response to the call, Putin did not come to Turkey for the meeting and sent a delegation instead. Zelensky also left Turkey after Putin's absence.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he could go to Istanbul on Friday if necessary, following Putin's decision not to come to Istanbul, saying, "I said if I don't go, Putin won't come, and I was right."

DELEGATIONS CAME TOGETHER

However, meetings took place between the delegations. In the trilateral meetings held under Turkey's auspices between Turkey-U.S.-Ukraine and Turkey-Russia-Ukraine, Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement on the exchange of prisoners.

EXCHANGE DECISION WAS MADE

Speaking after the peace talks in Istanbul, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said, "We have agreed on the exchange of 1000 prisoners of war with Russia." The Russian delegation stated, "We are satisfied with the talks. Russia and Ukraine will present their views on a possible ceasefire in detail, and then negotiations will continue."
